Ceramic Vessels

This ongoing series is rxploring shape, color and marks that combine in an intuitive search for meaning, a story that exists in that moment of expression. The gentle somewhat imperfect shapes reflect our own nature, imperfect yet perfect at the same time. Layers of texture, color and mark making reflect the layers of experience and time as our personal stories are told. These vessels are visual journals of my yearnings, dreams and the wonder and magic of being in nature.

Each vessel is constructed of hand rolled slabs, joined using a slip as glue to keep them together. Seams and sections vary as the vessel is constructed. At various stages I begin to introduce underglaze, slip, texture, incised lines pastel and pencil to develop the story, or history of the piece. The built up layers have a quality of time passing, an event in the making, or a stream of thoughts. My goal is to bring to my work ideas that expresss time and history. The vessels are then fired 1-3 times until the desired effect has been achieved.
