Earth + Fire

This is an ongoing series of vessels that are deeply inspired by earth, rock, plants, minerals, amd the relationship to us. Our well being is rooted in the earth, and we have an inextricable connection to that relationship. My vessels seek to connect our sensual natures to that of earth and the elements, the vessel being a symbol of containment, nurturing and guardianship. A sacred place that brings a sense of sanctuary to the space it inhabits.

Each vessel is made by coil and slab, working both the inside and outside, gently coaxing the skin of the piece into shape and form. The surfaces are then developed using indigenous rock, sand, mineral pigments and slips, then fired 1 - 3 times until I achieve the desired result. Fingerprints and marks during the construction are left as a part of the history, the story that is held in it’s making.
